Santa Gertrudis Namibia develop formal Score Card for Namibian Santa Breed.

Since inception of the Santa Gertrudis Namibia Breed Society in 2006 it has been high on its agenda to develop a more formal grading/scoring process for it's breeders stud cattle. It was felt that without a more formal process the breed in Namibia would run the risk of two much judgment based on personal preferences.

Furthermore, to date there has been no formal score card in place, which would allow the management to be able to develop guidelines for qualified graders to take into account when grading animals for take up in the Stud Book Register with the Namibian Stud Breeders Society of Namibia.

Furthermore it was important to identify within the Breedplan System the reasons for disqualifying an animal, which in turn would assist the Breed Standards committee to improve on weak or substandard traits in the breed.

The day was held on the Farm Wonderboom under the able and experienced Interbreed Judge Barend Dorfling and was attended by 7 Breeders of the Society.

Following the days lively debate and practical demonstrations, a scorecard has now been developed for submission, approval to the Management Committee, where after the scorecard will be officially used by all Namibia approved Graders of Santa Gertrudis Cattle. The Society will meet each year to ensure that the score card is reviewed and adapted where and when necessary.
